Care Workers Fight Back in Poland

2020 is ending with a victory for care workers in Poland. Following an inhuman COVID19-induced lockdown at Konstancin-Jeziorna nursing home that forced 19 care workers to work long shifts without the possibility of going home, UNI Global Union´s affiliate OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy launched an organising campaign driven by an all-female workforce that delivered relief within days.  


Towards A Global Agreement with Fresenius

This week, the Fresenius Global Union Alliance, representing more than 100,000 workers around the world, renewed its commitment to work together to expose workers’ rights abuses at the German healthcare giant at its annual forum. 

The alliance unanimously adopted a resolution demanding a global agreement containing an explicit commitment to neutrality by the company on the rights of workers to organize into unions; including:

The following statement on the murder of Joao Alberto Silveira in Brazil can be attributed to Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union:

"Once again the world has witnessed the horrible murder of a Black man, Joao Alberto Silveira at the hands of security forces. This most recent incident involves an attack by private guards against a Black customer at a Carrefour store in Brazil, in full view of the public.


Ghana's Care Union Putting Workers Health First

The Health Services Workers’ Union of Ghana (HSWU - Ghana) which in the last few years has been mobilizing its organizers and members to make major breakthroughs in the private hospital and elderly care sectors, building on their strength in the public and faith-based care sector. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, HSWU provided Personal Protective Equipment for its members and began campaigning for improved safety provisions and better working conditions.
